Minster Medical Practice

Appointments advice

We use a system called askmyGP which is an easy and fast way to ask for any kind of help from the practice.

  • We get back to you as soon as we can but please bear in mind we are not an emergency service and at busy times this will take longer
  • You can request a particular doctor or nurse  (so long as they’re working)
  • You can choose to be contacted by the surgery by telephone, secure message or video call
  • If we need to see you we will usually give you a face-to-face or video appointment the same day
  • Video consultations are provided by our own doctors through a secure link to your mobile, tablet or laptop for no extra charge
  • You can register for askmyGP now, without any paperwork

If you do not have internet access you can contact us by telephone and one of our receptionists will complete the askmyGP request for you.  If you do have internet access we ask you to complete this yourself to save you time and keep the telephone lines free for other patients.  However you choose to get in touch, your GP will contact you as soon as possible and either sort out your problem on the phone, by secure message, or arrange to see you the same day, or another day if that’s more convenient.

Please note you can no longer book a GP appointment using our previous online appointment system.

askmyGP is available to all our patients, and you can use it to ask about your children or other people you care for (if they are registered with us).

That’s it – simple and straightforward!

We are encouraging everyone who has access to a computer, smart phone or tablet to use askmyGP:

  • it saves you time
  • really ill patients don’t have to wait for urgent slots at the end of surgeries
  • GPs can manage their time more effectively, booking any follow-up appointments you might need

Chaperones

We have a chaperones policy page please follow this link.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

House visits are only available for patients who are genuinely housebound because of illness or disability. The receptionist will always ask you the nature of the problem, as this will enable the Doctor to decide the urgency of the visit.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery. Hence, in most cases, the Doctor will phone first to check the nature and need for home visits.

Lack of transport is not an acceptable reason for requesting the Doctor to visit.

Short Notice/ Urgent Visit Requests

Urgent visit requests will be dealt with immediately by the Duty Doctor.  Please stress that the call is “urgent”.  If it’s a genuine emergency, where someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk, call 999 and don’t panic.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your doctor please notify the receptionist and she will arrange this for you.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment; this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time – if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will have to rebook for the next available date/time.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
