Appointments

Urgent appointments

Urgent visit requests will be dealt with immediately by the Duty Doctor. Please stress that the call is ‘urgent’.

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday):

  • phone us on 01522 515 797, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment in the next 7 days:

We use a system called askmyGP which is an easy and fast way to ask for any kind of help from the practice.

– We get back to you as soon as we can but please bear in mind we are not an emergency service and at busy times this will take longer
– You can request a particular doctor or nurse  (so long as they’re working)
– You can choose to be contacted by the surgery by telephone, secure message or video call
– If we need to see you we will usually give you a face-to-face or video appointment the same day
– Video consultations are provided by our own doctors through a secure link to your mobile, tablet or laptop for no extra charge
– You can register for askmyGP now, without any paperwork

If you do not have internet access you can contact us by telephone and one of our receptionists will complete the askmyGP request for you. If you do have internet access we ask you to complete this yourself to save you time and keep the telephone lines free for other patients.

The askmyGP service is available to all our patients, and you can use it to ask about your children or other people you care for (if they are registered with us)

Alternatively,

  • phone us on 01522 515 797, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm
  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) to book a screening test or vaccination

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Your appointment

Please note, our consulting times extend beyond our opening hours; view our consulting times for further information.

Please attend your appointment on time – if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will have to rebook for the next available date/time.

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list.

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system – askmyGP
  • phone us on 01522 515 797, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter – please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

House visits are only available for patients who are genuinely housebound because of illness or disability. The receptionist will always ask you the nature of the problem, as this will enable the Doctor to decide the urgency of the visit.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery. Hence, in most cases, the Doctor will phone first to check the nature and need for home visits.

Lack of transport is not an acceptable reason for requesting the Doctor to visit.

Extended Access

Additional extended hours services are available and our registered patients will be able to book appointments each weekday from 6.30pm to 8pm and on Saturdays.

Please note however that evening and weekend appointments may be held at other local practices and will not be carried out by our staff. If you wish to be seen outside our core opening hours please ask at reception and we will be happy to arrange an appointment for you.

Please note, you will need to consent to your medical records being made available to the person seeing you for any appointment booked using the extended hours service.
