Repeat Prescriptions

SystmOnline

SystmOnline is our online repeat medication requesting service.

To use this service you will need to ask at reception where an account will be set up for you. Once you have set up a password you will be able to order repeat prescriptions online.

Patients on long-term tablets or medicines agreed by their doctor may obtain repeat prescriptions on a regular basis without seeing the doctor each time. Sometimes, however, you may be asked to make an appointment so that your medication can be reviewed.

New patients on regular treatment will be asked to make an appointment with the doctor soon after registering to discuss their medication.

If your doctor gives you a repeat prescription you will also receive a printed counterfoil. Please keep this until you require a further supply of medicine. Then, either leave the counterfoil in the special repeat prescription box at the side of the reception desk, post it to us or order online.

Please allow at least 2 working days for your prescription to be processed.

When your prescription is ready, you can collect it from the surgery (see below) or alternatively we can post it to you (please provide us with a stamped addressed envelope for this).

If you are genuinely housebound the local chemists are happy, if you make prior arrangements with them, to collect prescriptions from the surgery and deliver your medication free to your home. Please also notify us by writing this on the counterfoil.

We do not take repeat orders for medication over the telephone.

Collections

Please allow 48 hours for collection after ordering repeat prescriptions

If you request items not on repeat then those items will take longer. Please also be aware that this is 48 working hours so does not include Saturdays/Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Items requested on Saturdays/Sundays/Bank Holidays will be treated as submitted the next working day (am).  All requests are date/time stamped on receipt.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.00
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
  • 3-month PPC: £29.10

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
